Wedding Guest: Alison of CSP

Happy Friday, ALP readers! I’m Alison from Chain Strap Purse and, as you probably already know, someone around here is getting married tomorrow! Eeeep!
ALP

I walked down the aisle a little over two years ago, so Lacey asked me to share some last minute advice for the big day…from one bride to another!

Eat - I know some brides go on crazy diets and even on the day of they don’t eat…either because it’s a last ditch effort to stay slim or because they’re too nervous. But I can’t stress enough how important it is to have at least a little something in your stomach. It seriously makes all the difference in the world.

Don’t worry if something doesn’t go exactly as planned - This is actually on the verge of being cliche, but it’s seriously so true. Not everything will go off without a hitch when you’re getting hitched, but you’re likely to be the only one who notices. I promise!

Take five - After your ceremony, take just a few minutes to just “be.” You’re married and that’s a big deal! Leave your bridal party, photographer, planner and everyone else behind and just enjoy the moment. The day goes so fast and is such a blur, but that will be some of the most memorable time you have.

If any of you lovely ladies want to share your advice for the bride, please feel free to comment below! And thanks to Lacey for letting me take over today. I can’t wait to celebrate with you this weekend!

XO,
Alison

Wedding Guest: Megan of M.A.Designs

Hello Lovely ALP Readers!

This is Megan of M.A.Designs.  As a fellow bride to be, I know just how busy Lacey is right now, so I was happy to help when she asked me to write a post about graphic design for weddings.  If you are a frequent reader, then you have already seen some of my wedding work, here and here.  Today I want to give you a few tips on creating a cohesive look for your wedding, event or brand…(I even have a few sneak peaks at some of Lacey’s wedding signage!).

1. Pick a set of fonts & colors and stick with them.  -This applies whether you are using multiple vendors or one graphic designer. Make sure you know the codes (RGB, CMYK or Hexidecimal) for your colors, this will eliminate guessing and it will bring everything together.

2. Search the web for inspiration. -I LOVE to use Pinterest as a home for designs that I come across.  I also encourage clients to make Pinterest boards of designs that they like.  Eventually you will see a theme start to emerge from your collection and you will be on the right track to creating a cohesive look. Below is an example of an idea that Lacey found online; I was able to take that inspiration and fit it to the overall look of her wedding.

3. Pick a good printer. -I cannot stress this enough. This tip applies to outside vendors or DIY printing. You can have the greatest looking suite of designs, but if your printer stinks, then all was for naught.  Print a test page first to check colors and alignment, you will glad you did!  I am not paid to write about certain printers, however, like many others, I have been on the losing side (monetary and presentation wise) of bad printing.  Hands down, my favorite printer for business cards is Moo.com.  For invites, cards, and stationary I turn to Wedding Paper Divas or Minted.

I can’t wait to see all of the planning and designs come together this weekend!

Wedding Guest: Liz of SMTSA

Hi ALP readers!

Liz here from So Much to Smile About. When Lacey asked me to help out while she prepared for her big day, I was more than happy to contribute a post. And since I have a series on SMTSA that is all about outfits and occasions, I thought I’d share a few ideas for what to wear to a spring wedding! While I still have no idea what I’ll wear to Lacey’s, I’d be totally happy with any of the below options.

Can’t wait to share Lacey’s special day with her!

1. Iris and Ink Dress / 2. BaubleBar Necklace / 3. J.Crew Dress / 4. BaubleBar Earrings / 5. Diane von Furstenberg Dress / 6. Steve Madden Heels / 7. Lauren Merkin Clutch / 8. Ivanka Trump Heels

ALP Consulting Launch

When I started this blog I had no idea what a roller-coaster ride I was in for. All I wanted to do was inspire and be inspired, and it turned into so much more.

When I officially LLC-ed A Lacey Perspective I had aspirations of doing more then just the blog but was always nervous to take the plunge into more than daily outfit posts.

My most recent client was the oh-so-sweet Katrina.

Katrina was looking for “Lacey’s Perspective on Your Closet” so she can find more options in her wardrobe for fun, yet sophisticated looks for her 9-5 gig on Capitol Hill. I had an absolute blast getting to know her and helping her start to see her closet differently.

Here is what Katrina said about her experience:

“What I’m most appreciative for during my session with Lacey is that she took the time to get to know me before even opening my closet. By understanding what I needed from my everyday wardrobe, she taught me how to piece together outfits that are professional, yet eye-catching and unique — and I couldn’t be more thrilled!” -Katrina

Black Tie

First things first, the winner of the Ball on the Mall tickets is from my blog …Laura H!

But that isn’t all. We are giving away a second pair! Don’t you just love surprises?! …congrats to Eryn Schultz, who entered on Ally’s blog!

Now what the heck are we going to wear?!

ALP: Rent the Runway

Row 2:
Rouge Rosalind Peplum Gown {Badgley Mischka}Amaranth Lotus Gown {Bib Mohapatra} | Jennifer Gown {Shoshanna}Noir Timeless Love Gown {Nha Khanh}

Obviously, I went straight to Rent the Runway when I found out I was attending Ball on the Mall. The gowns above are some of my favorites I found as I tirelessly scanned through the site for the perfect gown to don for either the White House Correspondents Dinner this weekend or for Ball on the Mall the following weekend (lots of black tie affairs happening in DC right now …just another reason I love living here).

I was actually just on ABC7′s Let’s Talk Live the other day rocking a gorg Thakoon LRD from Rent the Runway…
A Lacey PerspectiveI so wish I could have walked out with that hot little number for the Correspondents Dinner parties. Sigh.

You can sign up for Rent the Runway here! You won’t regret it! Hint. Hint. I will be wearing one of these gowns to BOTM …which one do you think it is?

Have a fabulous weekend!

xoxo,
Lacey

PS
If you didn’t win but are still wanting to attend Ball on the Mall, you can still get tickets here! We would love to see you there!

Five Things

A Lacey PerspectiveI am finally off to my Bachelorette in sunny South Florida today, so what better time to share five things about myself before I head off to celebrate one of my last nights as a single lady? When Caitlin tagged me I was nervous because I typically don’t go too personal here on ALP, but then I realized after I hit publish I will have a frozen drink in my hand while lying on the beach. So lets do this…

1. My two favorite TV Series are West Wing and Sex and the City. I own the box set for both and I am pretty sure that this fact is the perfect way to describe my life. Politics by day where my 9 to 5 is filled with laughter, intelligent friends and mentors everywhere I turn. By night fashion events, writing about my love for clothes and cocktails with my fabulously dressed bffls.

2. My biggest struggle getting dressed every day is with my chest size. I have an abnormally disproportionate chest to back width ratio. So in theory my waist can fit into certain trends, but my chest cannot. It is quite a pain to put together this puzzle each morning, but I have also learned the hard way how to dress for my body type. I must be doing something right because I often get a shocked face when I tell people my chest size.

3. I have been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder recently. This is something I always knew was apart of my life, and affected my daily routine, but became more exaggerated as I went through some rough times in my life in the last year. So yeah, keep things neat and tidy around me and no one gets hurt.

4. I can’t cook. My fiancé thinks I say this as a way to get out of cooking dinner every night but it is completely true. I can cook (if you call it that) a mean bowl of Velveeta Mac and Cheese but other then that, keep me out of the kitchen unless you want me to pour you a glass of wine (that is a talent I have mastered).

5. I have lived in 6 states in my life: NY, FL, TX, PA, VA & DC. I wish it was 5 states (refer to my #3 thing) so that this would be 5 and 5. Ugh. Technically DC is not a state …so let’s say 5 states.

Tag you’re it: Marissa, Hallie, Meaghan, Alison & Sydne. :)

Now that I have shared my 5 things and tagged 5 lovely ladies… it is time for that frozen drink. Keep an eye on my Instagram this weekend, I am sure I will post a couple peeks into my Bachelorette craziness.

xoxo
Lacey

Red Carpet Sparkle

On a chilly NYC day in September, just before fashion week, I headed up to shoot a video to talk Red Carpet Trends with the fabulous Nola Weinstein, the Executive Editor of Glam.

I spent the entire day at the Rent the Runway HQ bonding with one of my new fav bloggers, Jessica of Bows and Sequins, white we got the star treatment from nails to hair to getting to rock a gorgeous Badgley Mischka sequin gown. I may have been fighting the flu, as you will definitely hear in my voice, but that didn’t take away from the fantastic time I had chatting about the trends I saw on the red carpet and how to translate that to everyday…

Fall/Winter 2013 Trends

ALP: FW 2013 Trends

Over-sized Leather & Beanies
All over the runways we saw over-sized leather (a trend I am not sure if will suit me) and beanies (a trend I have no problem donning).

6dacf231a265a376ccc4127d5452f069

Cobalt Blue
Luckily, this vibrant color is going no where in the winter. This will be the perfect pop of color to brighten your darker winter days.

26f2206caa584293bb2325d92234144f

Printed Fur
Printed fur was everywhere this season, from vests to coats to stoles. Sounds like a fun way to add some pizzazz to a more simple look.

Black and White
Whether it is in a print or standing alone the classic black and white is here to stay. I saw it all over the Spring runways, and it clearly spilled over into the fall. Love.

Probably one of the trends I spotted I am most thrilled to try is the slouchy leather trousers. It’s like taking our spring boyfriend jeans and making it cold weather friendly. I saw many black versions of this new cut but I am obsessed with the hue of the pair above.

Leather Dress
No matter the color or cut, pattern or silhouette, feminine or edgy; leather dresses were absolutely everywhere. This will be the perfect piece to add to your wardrobe to help transition you from 9 to 5.

Pattern on Pattern
Identical patterns or completely opposite, pattern was all over the runway. A theme we have seen for all of 2013 that as you know I love experimenting with.

ffbdbee3d1abd3ef2c39eec409eff103Winter White
My favorite monochromatic look has taken center stage this season and I am smiling from ear to ear. Love how all white can make a statement more then even a neon!

ALP: FW RTW 2013

Wine Lip & Deep Side Part
Keep your face clean, your eyebrows bold and add this gorgeous wine hue to your lips to stay on trend with what was all over the runways. For your hair a deep side part was everywhere. Think about laying the part just over the center of your eyebrow and then let you hair dry naturally to achieve the above.

Check out all of my favorite NYFW FW13 RTW looks over on my Fall/Winter Runway Pinterest Board and if you need a refresher on what to look for for spring (is it here yet?) check out my NYFW season wrap up from last season here!

What did you think of the NYFW Fall/Winter 2013 trends?

Got Me Again

A Lacey Perspective: NYFW FW13

Sweater {Old Navy} | Skirt {ASOS} | Bag {Zara} | Gloves {ASOS} | Boots {H&M} | Silver/Gold Bracelet {Yurman} | Watch {Michael Kors} | Spike Bracelet {c/o Stella & Dot} | Sunnies {HOH1960} |  Lipstick {NARS – Schiap}

A Lacey Perspective: NYFW FW13

I was not… repeat… not going to Fashion Week this season. My wedding is in three months and I have preparation to tend to.

Que an opportunity I could not pass up (will talk more about that one later, but Instagram should be a good hint) that took place two days prior to NYFW. Then one of my NYC favs, Taylor, asked me to help out IFB by live blogging a panel for them on their site.

Then… it got me again. Fashion Week. Fiiiiinnneee I’ll go.

So I squeezed in a show and hopped on a train the same day (yesterday) to head back to DC after my whirlwind four days.

I must admit, it was fantastic seeing old friends and making new, feeling the electricity in the air around Lincoln Center and having that moment where you realize where you are and how lucky you are to be there.
