The spring commute in a walking city is an adventure. One minute it may be cool and rainy, and the next warm and humid. Preparing for this commute is also an adventure… in your closet.

When I have a day full of meetings I like to plan my outfit two ways, for the commute and for the office. Both can work as a single look, and all it requires is a bit more thought before you step out your door.

My favorite thing to do in spring is to take an old piece from other seasons and give it a new, fresh look. This maxi dress was my favorite in fall and now I have belted it to give it a new casual feel.

It’s only appropriate to be donning all white for my first post back as a Mrs., right?!

The Mr. and I are back in DC (honeymoon will be later in the year due to work travel), and the only way to run errands is in the most comfortable jeans I own. This is Megan of M.A.Designs.  As a fellow bride to be, I know just how busy Lacey is right now, so I was happy to help when she asked me to write a post about graphic design for weddings.  If you are a frequent reader, then you have already seen some of my wedding work, here and here.  Today I want to give you a few tips on creating a cohesive look for your wedding, event or brand…(I even have a few sneak peaks at some of Lacey’s wedding signage!).

1. Pick a set of fonts & colors and stick with them.  -This applies whether you are using multiple vendors or one graphic designer. Make sure you know the codes (RGB, CMYK or Hexidecimal) for your colors, this will eliminate guessing and it will bring everything together.

2. Search the web for inspiration. -I LOVE to use Pinterest as a home for designs that I come across.  I also encourage clients to make Pinterest boards of designs that they like.  Eventually you will see a theme start to emerge from your collection and you will be on the right track to creating a cohesive look. Below is an example of an idea that Lacey found online; I was able to take that inspiration and fit it to the overall look of her wedding.

3. Pick a good printer. -I cannot stress this enough. This tip applies to outside vendors or DIY printing. You can have the greatest looking suite of designs, but if your printer stinks, then all was for naught.  Print a test page first to check colors and alignment, you will glad you did!  I am not paid to write about certain printers, however, like many others, I have been on the losing side (monetary and presentation wise) of bad printing.  Hands down, my favorite printer for business cards is Moo.com.  For invites, cards, and stationary I turn to Wedding Paper Divas or Minted.

Red Kennedy Gown {c/o Carolina Herrera via Rent the Runway}

Above is what I wore to Ball on the Mall Saturday night. I had such a blast at this unbelievably unique event and was so sad to send this amaze Carolina Herrera Red Kennedy Gown back to Rent the Runway. This beauty was made for me: red, dramatic bow, pockets and it fit like a glove!

This will be my last post here on ALP until after my wedding (this Sat… eek) but I will be leaving my blog to some of my wedding guests you may recognize. ;)

Currently the weather says 40% chance of rain for my big day… so feel free to cross fingers and toes, say a little prayer, etc for me that the rain stays away.

Lets start with the wedding website…

I didn’t want the wedding website just to be a place to see old pics of us and how we met. I wanted it to be interactive. A place where our guests can already start the wedding experience.

With help from my forever-talented bridesmaid and designer here on ALP, Megan Arnall of MADDesigns, we created exactly what I hoped for while keeping with our black, white and gold theme.

To make my life easier, I inserted a google form onto the site so that the guests can chose their main courses with ease.

Another Google Form was added so that our guests can request songs for the big day as well. This was a BIG hit.

See how to insert a Google Form into a website here. Lastly, on the website topic, buy your URL. It is worth the ten bucks for a year. It makes it SO much more simple for your guests to get to you and it looks much better on invites.

Next, Save the Date and invitations…

My Save the Dates and invitations for the wedding were done on Paperless Post. I have NO idea how brides do invitations via snail mail anymore. This was the easiest process ever AND they have an app so I would have notifications pop up on my phone when people RSVPed.

Also, another thing to notice is the that the website and invites all have the same look. Colors are the same, the gold wine glass is the same, etc. The more you stick with the same look through the wedding process from beginning to end the more your guests entire interaction with your nuptials will look polished. (The signage at the wedding will have the same look and fonts as well.)

Lastly, to keep with the whole online theme that began in this process, I knew I HAD to have an app. Yes, a wedding pictures app. Think of this as a replacement of those throw away cameras people used to put on each table. It is JUST like having a personal Instagram for your wedding day.

The best part is I will have access to all of the pictures after and can even have all the pictures created into a physical photo album!

There are many wedding apps to chose from but I chose Wedding Snap.

I am hoping to squeeze in one more post on Monday before I dive into last minute wedding-ness. After that, my wedding guests are taking over the blog for the week. Can you guess who they are?
