Daily Supplements Routine

One of my best friends, Camilla of Purpose and Pepper, happens to be a Health Coach, business owner, dancer, environmentalist and philanthropist. Basically super woman right?! Well, while bopping around the med on her catamaran (Her IG Stories with the dolphins have hearts in my eyes. I cannot wait to join her soon!) she shared with me the supplements she wants me taking daily and coaches me along my health journey. After some begging by myself and my ALP IG Fam she took some time while in port to write out what she recommended to me. Thank you SO much Camilla! Love ya!

Seeing Lacey wanting to take care of herself and give her body the best she can really made my heart happy.

Eating healthy, not too much and mostly plants is the number one thing we should do to take care of ourselves and a large plus is that it’s the single biggest way to reduce our negative effect on the planet as well.

When creating habits to change our lifes for the better it’s easiest way is to go all in mentally, by taking small sustainable steps every day. It’s not all or nothing, and most likely you will not succeed if you try to change everything at once, but making little tweaks in your diet every week is what will take you there and more importantly keep you in that good place.

Here’s 3 things that’s good to implement into your daily routine right away  and that I encouraged Lacey to try:

  1. Starting your day with warm water with lemon squeezed in it. This will kickstart your digestive system and it’s one of the best ways to clean your body in the morning.
  2. Make yourself a nutritious smoothie in the morning. By doing that you will start the day off by giving your body the fuel it needs and you’ll feel fuller longer. With smoothies you have a chance to sneak in quite a large amount of the fiber, antioxidants, protein and vitamins you should give your body during the day. It’s healthy, easy, delicious and motivating.
  3. Supplements. Real food is always the best. Being a realist I see that it’s a challenge getting enough of all the nutriets you need during a busy work day. Therefore I suggest a few supplements that will have a positive effect on your health. These are the one’s I recommended for Lacey:

Spirulina:

If something will keep your digestive system in function, this algea is it. It’s a real superfood and actually one of the most potent nutrient sources available. Incredible high in protein, a good source of antioxidants, B-vitamins and other nutrients. You will immediately feel a change in your bowel movement. Be careful, and be sure to start on a very small dosage. Powder is the best, but I’ll be honest, it does not taste good. If you can’t take the taste, start off with spirulina capsules.

Lacey’s Thoughts: I am crazy sensitive when it comes to taste so I am using Spirulina tablets to satisfy Camilla’s suggestion. You can take up to 6 tablets in a day. I have eased in with one week of one tablet a day, then my second week two a day, etc. I have a very sensitive stomach and this has been so helpful! I definitely felt discomfort in the first week but now I truly feel less bloated and more regulated.

Fish Oil/Omega 369:

It’s recommended eating at least two portions of oily fish per week, which is rich in the omega-3s EPA and DHA. If you don’t like fish, it’s especially important to take a supplement.

Omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids are all important dietary fats. However it’s important to get the right balance of omega-3, -6 and -9 fatty acids in your diet. There’s many different brands and forms on the marked, so talk to your local wellness store and see what they recommend for you.

Lacey’s Thoughts: This things are no joke. The size is huge but it is worth it. I must have gel tablets because the chalk ones were not going down easy.

A Multivitamin for Women:

Like I mentioned earlier, it can be a challenge to intake all the nutrients you need during a busy work day. Real food is always the best, but I recommend taking a daily multivitamin to make sure your covered.

There are hundreds of different brands and compositions, but for women make sure your multivitamin contains:

Vitamin A, B and D

Antioxidant

Iron

Magnesium

Iodine

Calcium

Omega 3

Lacey’s Thoughts: Again, trying to keep things easy I got a multivitamin thats chewable AND it tastes good! I linked to it above.

Plant Based Protein Powder:

We need protein, and the best way to get it is trough plants. Beans, peas, nuts, seeds and veggies. A scoop with solid and good quality protein powder in you daily smoothie is a health boost. Also very good if you work out, like I’m sure you will be doing on your journey towards a happier and healthier you.

Lacey’s Thoughts: I HATE the taste of anything green. It’s so bad it has become a joke amongst my friends. So if I am going to add a protein powder to my smoothie it needs to taste good this one that is basically double chocolate is the only way to go. When I’m not feeling chocolate I add in my collagen protein go to, which is my absolute favorite and Camilla approved!

After all of Camilla’s recommendations, in true Lacey fashion, I went on the hunt for an on brand pill box. I wanted something that is not your mama’s bill box but something that is a constant reminder what I need to take daily and is cute (duh). Enter this pink, grapefruit shape inspired pill box. I am in love and it has kept me on track since it hit my doorstep!
