Each season I like to recap the trends I saw on the NYFW runways whether I attend or not. I am big believer in learning something from Fashion Week and not just attending to show face or share what you wore. Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing what my fellow fashion bloggers wear to NYFW, but lets all remember this week exists for inspiration, trend setting and for the overall love of fashion.
Crop It Like It’s Hot
Speaking of trends we haven’t seen in decades… crop tops were everywhere this season. From the street style to the runways this trend is here to stay for 2014 (including the fall).
A trend I was surprised to see so much of on the runways was metallics. I saw metallics in all types of pieces from coats to shoes to skirts.
Black & White
A trend we have seen since spring 2013 is still going strong, black and white.
Matchy-matchy is no longer just for your younger years or your grandparents. Take one pattern and rock it from head to toe for work or play.
Leather in the warm seasons?! NYFW says yes, again, this spring season. Think leather shorts, leather piping/details or looser leather trousers like above.
Layering is no longer just for the fall/winter season. I saw layering all over the runways. Best way to stay cool? Layer a light weight button down under a dress like Rachel Zoe did above.
I think the neon trend is dissipating because pastels were all over the runways.
One trend that has been around for quite awhile, and luckily is still not going anywhere, is pattern mixing. I am so thrilled because I just love love love this trend!
Almost every single shoe that stepped onto those NYFW runways had a strap of some variety on them, but the shoe trend I saw the most was the extra strappy, wrapped-up-the-ankle pumps.
Remember when I said but not two photos ago that neon is dissipating? Correction… neon is dissipating everywhere but on your lips. Neon colored lipstick was on several of the top designers models.
