Tru by Hilton – A short three hour road trip from DC, through a tree lined two lane highway, you will find Farmville, Virginia. As you start to head to downtown Farmville you see this bright colored building that stands out with it’s funky shapes painted on the outside and that was my home for two days, a new brand for Hilton, Tru by Hilton. Hilton says the Tru brand is “a brand-new hotel experience from Hilton that’s vibrant, affordable and young-at-heart. It’s energetic, yet relaxing and comfortable. It’s familiar, and it’s also unexpected. It’s completely unprecedented, it’s uniquely Tru.” I couldn’t agree more. From the colorful lobby to the well laid out and thoughtful rooms (The beds being raised to be able to slip your luggage under was something that truly floored (pun intended) me!) you can tell the Hilton team really had us Millennials in mind.
After settling into our room my bestie Ashley and I headed down to the 2,880 square-foot lobby to grab a drink and play with their huge chest of games. Then we headed into downtown Farmville to explore. The following morning Ashley and I headed down to the 24 hour Fitness Room to get a workout in and where so pleasantly surprised by the many options. From barre, resistance bands, free weights, cardio and flexibility gear, plus we got workout ideas from their fitness center tablet!
After a little pre-dinner drink and play we headed out to Farmville to check the local spots. I highly suggest, if you want to avoid the classic suburban chains, Charley’s Waterfront Cafe for a long farm to table dinner by the water with a surprisingly great wine list or The Fishin’ Pig for some down home BBQ.
When back at the Tru by Hilton we stocked up at the 24/7 Eat & Sip Market with local gourmet snacks and drinks and headed back up to our room for a face mask dance party. Also, we visited the 24/7 complimentary LaVazza Coffee, Stash Tea and hot chocolate Station where you can also play around with a variety of flavored syrups (I changed it up every time).
Farmville is a small town known for its colleges so there is no need to really dress up. Bring your walking shoes to explore the quaint downtown and jeans with stretch for that BBQ joint. When it comes to the Tru by Hilton and you are looking to get some pictures make sure to bring your colorful A-game because their is color everywhere!
